Infestation

spiderI'm not a big fan of insects. I'm especially not a big fan of spiders. Now, we've been in our apartment for just about a year now. This means that we've seen every season and every issue that may come along with it.

Over the Winter, the snow built up on the roof and would come crashing down w/o notice. In the Spring, we got giagantic carpenter bees. During the Summer, squirrels got under the floorboards and died.

Now Fall is approaching. As I said before, I'm really not a fan of spiders. So you can imagine my surprise a few days back when I saw a HUGE orb web spun between two pegs of our front porch with a small black and yellow spider sitting in the middle. I didn't think much of him at first. But then, over the past few days, I've started to meet more of his friends all over our backyard. Their numbers made me curious so I looked them up. I believe that they are Black & Yellow Garden spiders.

Well two days ago, I was walking down my hall stairs to go do some laundry. The site that met me at the base of those stairs literally made me stop dead in my tracks. Apparently I had only been seeing the males because the Grand-Mama of spiders was crawling down the wall next to my front door. This thing was easily 3 inches long if you measured from leg tip to leg tip.

I was forced to smash it with a shovel.

Sooo... today there is another mama sitting in the middle of a beautiful and enormous web just outside of my living room window. I want to leave her alone but I also need her to promise me, in writing, that she will never attempt to enter my apartmet. I swear to christ I will burn her if she does.

Yikes—That picture is so scary—it is huge. It reminds me of the big tarantula in the Brady episode where they go to Hawaii and then get cursed.

I nearly threw up when I saw that photo. Oh god, why did you make your creatures and minions so foul as to give me nausea? Blech, I hate spiders, but I love you!
